Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has spoken about a player whose ambition is solely to secure a transfer to Europe and not to another local club.
Barker was speaking during the MTN8 press conference on Thursday at the PSL headquarters in Parktown ahead of his troops’ semi-final second-leg against Sekhukhune United, set to take place on Saturday, 23 August at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
Having seen a trend of key players leaving the club for both local and international teams, Barker was asked about the possibility of Stellenbosch losing their winger, Devin Titus, as well.
In the last two seasons, Stellies have sold a handful of crucial players, including Iqraam Rayners, Jayden Adams, Fawaaz Basadien [all Mamelodi Sundowns], Deano Van Rooyen [Orlando Pirates], Ismael Toure [FC Baniyas], Antonio van Wyk [SV Ried] and most recently, Tylon Smith [QPR].
Barker stated that if Titus were to leave, it would be for a move to Europe, as the player has set his sights on an international career rather than joining other Betway Premiership clubs.

BARKER ON A STELLENBOSCH PLAYER WHO DOESN’T WANT TO MOVE TO LOCAL TEAMS
“Devin Titus is our player; he’s got ambitions to go play in Europe only,” said Barker.
“He doesn’t have ambitions to play locally for any team. So, he wants to play in Europe, hopefully, if he continues doing what he does, we can help him achieve that dream, if not at the end of this season, then the next season to come.”
Titus has had an impressive start to the 2025/26 season, featuring in five matches across all competitions – three in the league and two in MTN8. In the process, he’s rattled the back of the net once and registered one assist.
The 25-year-old is part of the Bafana Bafana 48-man preliminary squad for the September 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Lesotho.
