Mamelodi Sundowns have roped in former Orlando Pirates and Bloemfontein Celtic dribbling wizard Mark Mayambela as their new Under-15 head coach.

Mayambela joins Masandawana after cutting ties with Cape Town City FC, where he was serving as their development coach. CT City were relegated from the top-flight to the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season.

He will be working alongside youth coach Sam Mbatha at Bafana Ba Style, with expectations of yielding fruitful results in nurturing the future football stars for Sundowns. The duo were spotted at the Gauteng Development League [GDL] games on Saturday, 23 August 2025, at Christ Church Preparatory School and College in Midrand, Johannesburg.

Before the start of the 2025/26 PSL season, Mayambela was linked with a move to Chippa United, where he was expected to serve as an assistant coach to Sinethemba Badela, who has since left the club just after two Betway Premiership games.

Badela was shown the exit door following a turbulent relationship with the club’s sporting director, Sinesipho Mali, as previously reported by FARPost.

He had joined the Gqeberha-based outfit after serving as an assistant coach to Rulani Mokwena at Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club.

However, Mayambela’s deal with the Chilli Boys ahead of the start of the new campaign never materialised.

The 37-year-old retired footballer comes highly recommended, as he just completed his UEFA A Coaching Diploma in June this year in the United Kingdom.

In addition, during Mayambela’s stint with CT City’s development side, he secured four trophies, winning the Under-16 FTIFA Cup twice in 2022 and 2025, along with the fourth Moment Cup in 2024, and triumphed in the Engen Knockout Challenge in 2022 with the U-18s.

Mayambela will be hoping to continue his outstanding work as a youth coach with the Brazilians and also hit the ground running at the club.

During his playing days, he also represented teams such as Mpumalanga Black Aces, Djurgårdens IF in Sweden, Ajax Cape Town, Cape Umoya United, to name a few.
