Former Golden Arrows striker Knox Mutizwa is hoping to secure a contract at Durban City FC, as he has been training with the team for some time now.

The 31-year-old forward has been a free agent after he parted ways with Abafana Bes’thende towards the end of the last season, along with centre-back Thabani Zuke.

Mutizwa left Arrows after a long career, having initially joined on loan from Bidvest Wits in January 2017, with the move becoming permanent at the start of the 2017/18 season.

Throughout his tenure at the club, he was a pivotal figure for multiple coaches, consistently delivering on the pitch. Mutizwa’s impressive record includes 63 goals and 23 assists in 231 matches.

Last season, he continued to be a crucial part of the squad, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 14 appearances.

DURBAN CITY ASSEMBLING EXPERIENCED SQUAD FOR FIRST SEASON IN THE TOP-FLIGHT

Mutizwa has been training with Gavin Hunt’s side for some time now, hoping to join the club that’s been recruiting experienced players in an effort to assemble a solid team for their first season in the top-flight after getting promoted last season.

The Zimbabwean attacker was recently joined by another trialist, Phakamani Mahlambi, who’s also eyeing a deal with the Durban-based side to revive his career.

Mahlambi last played a top-flight match in September 2021 in a Chippa United shirt. His season then was cut short after he sustained an Achilles tendon injury while making a second-half appearance in a 2-1 defeat to Stellenbosch FC.

He’s hoping to reunite with the club’s head coach Gavin Hunt, who gave him his debut in the top-flight at Bidvest Wits in the 2015/16 season, playing in a 2–1 win over the now-defunct Ajax Cape Town.

It is understood the man from Louwsburg in KwaZulu-Natal has impressed so far and could put pen to paper at Durban City.
