Following their relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Cape Town City FC got off to a false start to life in the NFD after playing to a goalless draw against Venda FC at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
The Citizens were relegated to the second division after having a run of disappointing results in the Betway Premiership last season.
Ct City finished the previous campaign in the 15th position on the league table with 27 points in 28 matches. After an underwhelming run, the Cape Town-based side had a chance to save their status in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs.
In the playoffs, Orbit College FC overpowered CT City and Casric Stars to seal a spot in the elite league for the 2025/26 season.
The John Comitis-owned team reportedly attempted to buy a status; however, they couldn’t find a willing seller in the Premiership, forcing them to fight for automatic promotion on the pitch.
UPINGTON CITY FC COLLECTS MAXIMUM POINTS IN A WIN OVER KRUGER UNITED

Cape Town City could not collect maximum points in their opening match of the season against Venda, making their upcoming matches crucial to start collecting points.
Elsewhere, Upington claimed a 4-2 victory over Kruger United at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The two clubs produced an entertaining six-goal thriller as Bafana Ba Gucci got off to a flying start.
The Northern Cape-based side will be looking to improve from their 12th-place finish last season and fight for promotion to the top-flight.
