Sekhukhune United mentor Eric Tinkler has provided the latest update on the injury of club captain, Linda Mntambo, who has been on the sidelines for the last three games in the new season.

The former Orlando Pirates midfielder, Mntambo, has been forced to spend some time off due to an injury he sustained on 13 August against TS Galaxy during a Betway Premiership tie at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Mntambo was substituted for Bright Ndlovu in the 83rd minute of the match, shortly after 24 minutes when he came on for Keletso Makgalwa in the second-half. Babina Noko managed to beat the Rockets 1-0 courtesy of Bradley Grobler’s goal.

Tinkler revealed that Mntambo suffered a fractured ankle. He was speaking following their 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 second-leg semi-final tie in Polokwane on Saturday night, which resulted in a 3-1 defeat on aggregate.

WHAT ERIC TINKLER SAID ABOUT LINDA MNTAMBO’S INJURY

The Limpopo club head coach, Tinkler, stated that the skipper is expected to be on the sidelines for at least three months before he could return to training.

“Linda is our captain, and he was actually doing well for us. Unfortunately, Linda has a fractured ankle,” said Tinkler.  “So, he will be out for at least the next three months. But I think everyone else tonight [referring to Saturday] did well. Thabang Monare, Siphesihle Mkhize, and Vusimuzi Mncube performed very well.

“I can’t fault the efforts that everybody is putting in, and this is what we have; they need to step up.”

Sekhukhune will now gear up for their Betway Premiership encounter against AmaZulu FC on Wednesday, 27 August 2025.

The match will take place at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium. The kick-off is scheduled for 19:30.
