FARPost has gathered why Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Veli Mothwa wasn’t among the 18 players unveiled by AmaTuks on Friday, despite indications that a deal was as good as done.

This publication revealed four weeks ago that Mothwa had resurfaced at the Motsepe Foundation Championship side – AmaTulks after parting ways with Betway Premiership side AmaZulu FC.

Mothwa left Usuthu when his contract expired, ending a five-year stint with the club. He made 124 appearances for the club and was part of the squad that finished second in the league during the 2020/21 season, earning a spot in the CAF Champions League.

The new signings are Abel Mabaso, Luvuyo Phewa, Aphelele Teto, Thando Buthelezi, Sifiso Mazibuko, Thabo Nkwana, Sbonga Mgwaba, Sifiso Mbidana, Kamohelo Hoala, Onele Rulwana, Thulani Zandamela, Bantu Chingi, Tokollo Makgolane, Lesego Sebetlela, Jordan Allies, Akhanyile Norawana, and Vusi Sibiya.

WHAT HAS DELAYED VELI MOTHWA’S SIGNING AT MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP CLUB

The 34-year-old’s name was surprisingly not on the list of the players announced by the club. This is despite the former Baroka FC and Chippa United player training with AmaTuks for over four weeks now.

This publication has since established that his delay in signing was due to an injury he picked up while at the club.

According to a source, Mothwa’s move to the club could still be finalised as soon as he has recovered from the injury.

AmaTuks had Tokollo Makgolane as their goalkeeper during the draw against Highbury on Friday, with Mcebisi Langa deputising for him.
