Magesi FC head coach John Maduka has explained why they roped in former Orlando Pirates midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu for the 2025/26 PSL campaign.

A week ago, FARPost broke the news that the 29-year-old has signed with Dikwena Tsa Meetse as the side aims to beef up its midfield options in its first season in the SA elite league.

The attacking midfielder joined the Limpopo club following his stint with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Pretoria Callies, which has since sold its PSL status to Lerumo Lions FC.

Zungu made his debut for Magesi on Wednesday night when they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in a Betway Premiership tie at a packed Seshego Stadium in Polokwane. He came on from the bench, replacing Tholang Masegela in the 83rd minute of the showdown.

‘HE IS A GREAT THINKER,’ SAYS JOHN MADUKA

Maduka expressed the need for a player of Zungu’s quality to strengthen their midfield and the Magesi coach is confident that the player will elevate the team’s performance, highlighting his exceptional thinking and intelligence.

“It is good to have Zungu in our squad. He is going to help the team with his experience, and we should not forget that he is a good player,” said Maduka.

“Zungu is one player who can change the game for us. He is a great thinker and very intelligent. Therefore, we believe he will be able to help the team throughout the season.”

In his football career, Zungu also turned out for clubs such as AmaZulu FC, Stellenbosch FC, Richards Bay FC, and Platinum City Rovers.

Magesi will now shift their focus to their next league assignment against Golden Arrows away from home on Wednesday, 27 August 2025.

The showdown between Abafana Bes’thende and Magesi will take place at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi. The kick off is scheduled for 19:30.
