Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has waxed lyrical about one of Abafana Bes’thende players, describing him as one of the best foreign strikers to ever play in South Africa.
Mngqithi and his Arrows troops have had a bit of a fluctuating start to the 2025/26 season, losing one, drawing one and winning one of three Betway Premiership matches they have played so far. They sit in eighth place in the league standings with four points accumulated.
Following their 1-1 draw against Durban City FC last week, Mngqithi heaped praise on striker Junior Dion, who scored the equaliser for his side on the day, securing a point for Arrows.
Mngqithi explained that he was still at Sundowns when Dion first caught his eye, playing for Botswana giants Jwaneng Galaxy when the two teams met in the CAF Champions League.

MNGQITHI ON WHY HE RATES JUNIOR DION HIGHLY
“I’ve always liked Dion, I’ve liked him from Jwaneng in Botswana when we played them in the Champions League whilst I was still at Sundowns,” said Mngqithi.
“I know what he’s capable of. And for me, he’s one of the best strikers we’ve brought in the country. I wouldn’t understand why somebody would not know the value in that player because with football actions, he’s got so much.
“He can score with his left or right, he’s strong in the air, he’s got some dribbles, he’s very good in the press, he works very hard for the team, and he’s a menace around the box.
“He has scored a lot of goals, even against us at Sundowns. So, I’ve always known what he’s capable of, and I believe the best is yet to come.”
So far, Dion has scored a goal in each of the two league matches he’s played for the KZN side, bringing his total to two goals in the new campaign.
