Durban City FC head coach Gavin Hunt has provided an update on Phakamani Mahlambi, who has been undergoing assessment at the KZN side.
The 27-year-old winger has been absent from professional football for over three years after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns. His Sundown exit came after a loan spell with Chippa United.
Due to his persistent disciplinary problems, the talented winger did not have a successful spell at Sundowns, having also spent time at AmaZulu FC.
After making a historic move to African giants Al Ahly in 2017, Mahlambi left Cairo club after just one season, returning to South Africa to join Sundowns.
WHAT IS THE LATEST ON MAHLAMBI AT DURBAN CITY FC
Interestingly, Mahlambi rose to prominence under Hunt during the 2016/17 season at Bidvest Wits. He played a key role in the club’s title-winning campaign, scoring a total of seven goals.

As previously reported by FARPost, Hunt recently confirmed that he has offered the former Bafana Bafana star an opportunity to revive his career.
“Yeah, look, he’s just got to keep training, doesn’t he?. You know what I’m saying, keep running, keep training and then if something happens, something happens, you know,” the veteran coach said.
He further added: “I told him, and he knows that. There are no promises, and he’s accepted that, and we get him fit, uh…try and get him fit, and that is all you can do.”
Hunt is convinced that the talented attacker has improved his fitness during his time training with the club.
“Well, he has certainly improved from when he first came. There is no doubt about it, you know. He has certainly improved a lot, yeah.”
Durban City, formerly known as Maritzburg United, have had a good start after returning to top-flight football. They have won two of their opening three games and drew in the third in the Betway Premiership.
Polokwane City FC are their next opponents on Tuesday in a match to be played at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
