Kaizer Chiefs are on the verge of finalising the signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe following his exit from the reigning Betway Premiership champions.
The versatile midfielder, who spent the latter part of the 2024/25 season on loan at SuperSport United, proved instrumental in their fight against relegation, featuring in 16 matches and contributing one goal and two assists.
While Siwelele FC, who acquired SuperSport Unitedโs PSL status, were keen to retain his services, Maboe was reportedly eager to reunite with his boyhood club. Durban City FC, formerly Maritzburg United, and Sekhukhune United also showed interest, but he is now set to join Amakhosi.
The 30-year-old, who was once part of Chiefsโ development structures, is expected to undergo a routine medical before the deal is finalised. Indications are that personal terms have been agreed. With the Soweto giants competing in the CAF Confederation Cup this season, there is a sense that his experience could be valuable.

LEBOHANG MABOE WILL ADD DEPTH TO KAIZER CHIEFS’ MIDFIELD
The versatile midfielder, who can play in several positions but is primarily an attacking midfielder, is also seen as someone who would add significant depth to the midfield.
His imminent signing, along with the earlier acquisition of Siphesihle Ndlovu, indicates that Chiefs are restructuring their midfield. This move follows the departure of captain Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo.
Maboe made his name at Maritzburg United before making his move to Sundowns during the 2017/18 season. His time at the Brazilians was successful as he lifted an impressive nine major trophies, including five league titles, making 183 appearances, scoring 20 goals and providing 23 assists.
While primarily playing as an attacking midfielder, he also played in 72 matches as a winger and was deployed as a centre forward 12 times, with a few appearances at right-back.
