Miguel Cardoso, the head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, has indicated a specific position at the club he believes needs to be strengthened in the transfer market.
The Brazilians have taken a cautious approach in the transfer market, signing fewer players compared to their rivals, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, who have both added over 10 new players to their squad for the ongoing 2025/26 season.
Masandawana have only welcomed talented left-back Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch, Tsiki Ntsabeleng on loan from MLS outfit FC Dallas, and Aphelele Teto, who has already been sent on loan to AmaTuksย in the Motsepe Foundation Championship
In contrast, Sundowns have released a handful of first-team players as head coach, Cardoso, previously expressed his desire to work with a small squad.
INJURIES TO ARTHUR SALES AND OTHER FIRST-TEAM PLAYERS FORCE SUNDOWNS TO THE MARKET
Following the recent injuries to players such as Themba Zwane, Arthur Sales, and Thapelo Maseko, the former Esperance tactician has revealed that they’re looking to sign players in the attacking areas.

Cardoso spoke about the club’s transfer plans after Sundowns collected maximum points with a 1-0 win over Stellies in the Betway Premiership at Athlone Stadium this past Saturday.
“We played against a very good team, I just want everyone to remember that Stellenbosch reached the [CAF] Confederation Cup semi-final last season,” Cardoso said.
“If I remember, Stellenbosch also won twice against Sundowns in the MTN8 last year, so it was a tricky match and I don’t think many teams take points out of them here at home.
“We had one hell of a first-half with 80% of the ball-possession, eight shots with four of them on target. So like I said, Stellenbosch has a tricky way of playing with players with speed.
“From our side, we lost Arthur [Sales], and we knew that he wouldn’t last the whole match. At half-time, I had to take him off; unfortunately, [Siyabonga] Mabena also had a setback on his knee, so we could not use him.
“Remember that Thapelo Maseko is also injured, so we’ve got issues with the players on the front, and that’s the positions we’re working on to reinforce the team.”
