Following his stellar performances at the recently concluded CHAN tournament in Kampala, Uganda, Thabiso Kutumela has penned a deal with AmaZulu FC, FARPost has learnt.
Kutumela went to the 2025 CHAN tournament unattached after parting ways with Betway Premiership side Richards Bay FC at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Durban City FC and Chippa United had shown interest in signing him, but both negotiations fell through.
But after scoring three goals in Bafana Bafanaโs four games at CHAN, Usuthu have signed him to strengthen their attack in the new season.
The two parties have been in discussions recently, and FARPost has been informed that they have finally reached an agreement. The Durban-based side announced the attacker’s arrival just minutes after this publication reported his signing on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old will be hoping to revive his career after struggling for game time last season. After joining the Natal Rich Boys in July last year following his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns, he made only 11 appearances and scored only one goal in the process.

AMAZULU ANNOUNCE SIGNING OF BAFANA STAR THABISO KUTUMELA
“AmaZulu Football Club has strengthened its attacking arsenal with the signing of experienced forward, Thabiso Kutumela,” reads the club statement. “The 32-year-old, fresh from representing Bafana Bafana at the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship in Kenya, joins Usuthu with a proven pedigree as a goal poacher. He will don the iconic jersey number 10 for Usuthu.
Meanwhile, Usuthu president Sandile Zungu welcomed the striker, expressing his excitement about the new acquisition, while also noting that Kutumela hadย been a target for AmaZulu for some time.
Zungu also stated that the striker is expected to play a crucial role in coach Arthur Zwane’s strategy, especially with the team using the FIFA international break to refine their goal-scoring ability.
“We are very pleased to welcome Thabiso Kutumela into the club,” said Zungu. “He is an accomplished striker. When he was at Maritzburg United, he competed alongside the likes of Bradley Grobler and Peter Shalulile for the league’s top goal scorer award.
“Both Shalulile and Grobler are still doing just that for their respective teams, and we trust Kutumela will hit the ground running at Usuthu. We welcome him with warm hands.”
