Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has unpacked what new signing Lebohang Maboe will bring to the club’s setup as they aim to maintain their impressive start to the 2025/26 season.
The talented midfielder signed with Chiefs on a free transfer over a week ago after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the previous Betway Premiership campaign.
Maboe is among several new signings for Amakhosi in the current transfer window. The club is looking to build on its 2025 Nedbank Cup triumph, which ended a 10-year trophy drought, and improve on a disappointing league campaign that saw them finish outside the top eight for the second straight season.
Chiefs welcomed Maboe alongside Thabiso Monyane, Etiosa Ighodaro, Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, Ethan Chislett, Paseka Mako, Flavio Silva, Nkanyiso Shinga, and Siphesihle Ndlovu.
Maboe is arguably Chiefs’ marquee signing after proving his worth in the colours of Mamelodi Sundowns. He made over 100 appearances across all competitions, scored 20 goals, and contributed 23 assists.
The former Maritzburg United star won a handful of major trophies with Sundowns, which include the 2023 African Football League [AFL].
WHAT NABI SAID ABOUT MABOE
Nabi has praised Maboe’s signing and admitted that his side will benefit from the experience he accumulated at Masandawana.

“For Maboe, I have to say congratulations to the Kaizer Chiefs board, they are so smart with how they make recruitment,” Nabi said.
“He’s a great player, we need him, and we need his qualities. He has a lot of experience from Sundowns that can help us. Now he’s working with the fitness coach [Majdi Safi] to be ready.
“But also we have a lot of players like Chislett, Ighodaro, Velebayi, Baartman. For sure, at the right time, we will introduce them to make it easy for them to perform.”
The Glamour Boys are currently sitting second on the league table with 13 points after winning four games and drawing one.
They are the only team that has yet to concede a goal since the start of the new season, as Amakhosi goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has kept five clean sheets.
