Former Kaizer Chiefs and JDR Stars midfielder Chris Matombo has expressed his disappointment after the sale of The Hammer Boyz, which happened just as he was hitting his stride at the club
The Motsepe Foundation Championship side was sold to Limpopo businessman Lister Makatoane at the end of last season. They are now renamed Leicesterford City FC.
At the time of the sale, Matombo was one of the key players for the side. But he was surprisingly let go by Leicesterford coach Stanford Nkoane after two weeks at the new side.
The 32-year-old, former Kaizer Chiefs player, has now been unveiled by Venda FC for his second stint at the club.
CHRIS MATOMBO SHARES HIS EXPERIENCE OF HIS LAST FEW DAYS AT JDR STARS
“So what basically happened was that half of the players were released after JDR Stars sold their status,โ Matombo told FARPost.

“It was obviously an unexpected turn of events. Going into my fourth season, I had imagined a long-term future with the club, but I was forced to move on and find a new home, just like anyone else in my position would.
“It was a surprise, but at least we were informed that the club was sold immediately when the season came to an end. So we trained with Leicesterford City for two weeks,โ he added.
NEW VENDA FC MIDFIELDER WANTS TO REPAY THE FAITH
โBut over 15 players were told that they were not on his [Nkoane] plans, and we were eventually released. Coming back home is always a good thing. I was here in Venda FC’s first season. We finished fifth, and I hope this season we can either qualify for the playoffs or even secure automatic promotion.
“I was playing well and hit the right form because I was playing in so many games. I just hope that the same thing will happen again here.”
