Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town City FC has bolstered their attacking options with the signing of former Al Ahly striker Walter Bwalya.

The Congolese striker, Bwalya, joins the Citizens on a free transfer after parting ways with Algerian club JS Kabylie. CT City unveiled him on Friday, but did not disclose the length of his contract.

Bwalya is expected to bring significant experience to CT City’s frontline as the Cape Town-based outfit aims for an immediate return to the Betway Premiership after their relegation last season in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs, where Orbit College FC secured promotion.

“Cape Town City is pleased to welcome Congolese striker Walter Bwalya to the City family,” reads the club statement. “Heโ€™s here. Heโ€™s City. Walter Bwalya is Royal Blue.”

BWALYA BECOMES CAPE TOWN CITY’S SEVENTH SIGNING

The 30-year-old Bwalya is the seventh new player to join CT City. He is part of a wave of experienced signings for the club, including former Chiefs and Sekhukhune United defender Njabulo Ngcobo, and ex-Mamelodi Sundowns star Sifiso Ngobeni. The team has also added two Dutch players: Simon van Duivenbooden from Vitesse Arnhem and Mickey van der Hart from SC Heerenveen.

CT City also secured attacker Keagan Dolly, a former star from Kaizer Chiefs and French Ligue 1. Dolly was part of the recent Bafana Bafana squad at the 2025 CHAN tournament in East Africa.

In addition, CT City recalled captain Lorenzo Gordinho, who had initially parted ways with the club at the end of last season. They also gave academy product Luca Diana-Oliaro a new, long-term contract.

Meanwhile, Bwalya, who was once linked with a move to Chiefs, joins CT City with a decent track record, having scored over 40 goals and provided 13 assists throughout his career. At his most recent club in Algeria, he contributed two goals and one assist last season.

Bwalya’s notable achievements include winning the CAF Champions League with Al Ahly in the 2020/21 season and the Qatari Stars Cup with Al-Sailiya SC the following campaign. His extensive career also includes stints at clubs such as Al-Nahda Club, Yeni Malatyaspor, El Gouna FC, Nkana FC, Forest Rangers, and Corboux FC.
