Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane has opened up about his first professional coaching role after being appointed as the new head coach of the Botswana side, Matebele FC.
Letsholonyane completed his move to Matebele this past Sunday and was officially unveiled by the club on Monday, 1 September 2025.
‘Yeye,’ as he is affectionately known, has already hit the ground running, preparing for his first official league game against Black Lions FC, a team that is coached by his fellow countryman, Owen Da Gama. The showdown will be played on Saturday, 13 September 2025.
So far, Matebele have played three matches in the Botswana Premier League’s new season. In those three outings, the side managed to win one game and suffered two defeats.
As things stand, Matebele are placed 10th on the log standings with three points after three games.
‘I’M A BIT NERVOUS,’ SAYS RENEILWE LETSHOLONYANE
Letsholonyane expressed that he’s slightly anxious about his new chapter, but he views it as a challenge that will assist him in developing as a coach.
“Well, I’m a bit nervous, but very excited. I think it’s obviously because I’m in a space that makes me a little uncomfortable. So, it’s those nerves that have a mixture of happiness to be in such a space,” said Letsholonyane in an exclusive interview with FARPost.
“But I’m settling in well. It’s a foreign country; however, it’s not bad for me because I’m somewhat familiar with it. I believe this opportunity will be beneficial for my personal growth, as I’m joining a team that is highly ambitious and competes in a league that is growing every season. I want to contribute to the football of Botswana.”
Letsholonyane holds a CAF A Coaching Licence and has previously coached the AmaZulu FC reserve side. He was also involved in the technical setups of the South African Under-20 and Bafana Bafana – CHAN squads.
