Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy believes there are some similarities between him and his son Aden, although he believes the latter is on a different level.
Aden McCarthy has made an immediate impact since breaking into the Amakhosi senior team from the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] side.
Before a recent injury setback, the 21-year-old had already bagged two Betway Premiership man of the match awards. He has featured in three of the five league matches for Amakhosi this season.
WHY FABIAN MCCARTHY BELIEVES HIS SON ADEN IS FAR AHEAD OF HIM
McCarthy senior, who also made a name for himself at the club between 2003 and 2008, says his son is far ahead of him as compared to himself at the same age.
โThere are quite a few [similarities]. But he has the advantage in terms of the aerial strength, the height already,โ McCarthy told FARPost.

WHAT KEY FEATURES DOES KAIZER CHIEFS’ YOUNG DEFENDER HAVE, ACCORDING TO HIS FATHER
โHe has a left foot on him, and he has the pace, you know. I think at this moment, at his age, he is far ahead of me.
He started in a professional setup at a young age at the Chiefs’ development. But I also spent a few years training with the first team and getting to know the culture and setup, and what is needed from him to perform.โ
โObviously, there is pressure. There will always be positive and negative media coverage, but it’s up to him how he will take it in and absorb it. Mine was simple. I always turned negative comments into positive ones when I went on the field and gave my best.โ
Chiefs will be hoping their young defender will have fully recovered when they face Sekhukhune United on Tuesday, 16 September at FNB Stadium.
