Betway Premiership club Marumo Gallants are currently assessing Zimbabwean striker Mthabisi Ncube, who is highly tipped as a promising talent.
The 21-year-old forward has been in Bloemfontein with Bahlabane Ba Ntwa, who are also assessing his potential, this week.
Ncube comes highly recommended after his incessant rise in recent seasons. His promotion to the senior team a few seasons ago came straight after he scored 46 goals in the ZIFA Bulawayo Province Junior League. The incredible record catapulted him to the senior team.
Wanting to help him transition, the then-teenager was placed in the club’s reserve side, Bosso90, which plays in the second tier of Zimbabwean football. He scored five goals and provided four assists in 17 games, just one goal shy of the Southern Region Division One’s top goal scorer.
His contract with the Bulawayo giants Highlanders came to an end at the end of July, and Gallants invited him over for a trial. Gallants are looking to reinforce their attack, having scored five goals in the first five games and conceded the same number.
WHAT KIND OF STRIKER IS MTHABISI NCUBE?
Zimbabwean football journalist Buhle Ncube, who has tracked the young striker since his time in the youth leagues, describes him as an exciting talent. “He’s an exciting talent who combines his speed with skill and is a good finisher,” Ncube told FARPost.
“I first saw him in the season he scored 46 goals, and he demonstrated his scoring ability as a striker. But the loss of both his parents in a short space of time may have affected his game. He bounced back this season. He has scored five goals and provided four assists in a very challenging league. The top scorer, at the time he left, had scored six goals, having played more games than him.”
Interestingly, Marumo’s five goals this season have come from their wingers and midfielders. Right winger Bheki Mabuza has scored two goals and provided one assist. On the other hand, Daniel Msendami, Jaisen Clifford, and midfielder Simo Luthuli, formerly Mbhele, have scored one goal apiece.
