Wandile Duba tips Chiefs to win league title

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in action in the league

Kaizer Chiefs forward Wandile Duba has tipped his side to win the Betway Premiership title following the Soweto giants’ impressive start to the 2025/26 season.

Amakhosi have seemingly turned their fortunes in the league after a below-par showing in the past few years, which saw them finish outside the top eight for two consecutive seasons.

In the current campaign, Chiefs had a bright start, winning four games and drawing one in their first five Premiership games. The Glamour Boys claimed wins against Stellenbosch FC, Polokwane City FC, Richards Bay FC, and Golden Arrows and drew against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chiefs, Sekhukhune United, and Sundowns are the only three clubs that have yet to lose a match this season. Furthermore, the Soweto giants have a flawless defensive record, having not conceded a single goal in their first five matches.

The great start to the season has reignited belief among Chiefs supporters that they can win the league for the first time since the 2014/15 campaign under the guidance of Stuart Baxter.

In the 2019/20 season, the Naturena-based side came close to clinching the league honours; however, they lost out on the final match of the campaign as Sundowns were crowned champions.

With Chiefs showing early signs of being a title contender, Duba has admitted that the club has realistic chances to lift the Betway Premiership trophy.

“I think we’ve started the season very well, better than all other seasons. This season we are stronger, we understand the coach [Nasreddine Nabi] and I think we’ll win more games,” Duba said.

“We always start every season wanting to win the league, and this season we started very good, there are high hopes, we believe in ourselves more than any other season.”

The 2025 Nedbank Cup champions have gone out guns blazing in the current transfer window, signing players such as Lebohang Maboe, Etiosa Ighodaro, Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Flavio Silva to boost their chances of fighting for all trophies on offer.

Chiefs will also be participating in the CAF Confederations Cup this season.
