Kaizer Chiefs’ sporting director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, has explained the major signing coup of Khanyisa Mayo, revealing how the Bafana Bafana international will benefit the club.
Amakhosi completed the signing of Mayo on a season-long loan from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad. The highly-rated attacker is making a return to the PSL after spending one season in North Africa.
Mayo fell out of favour at Belouizdad under head coach Sead Ramovic, and he was not registered for the 2025/26 season, forcing him to search for a new club.
The 27-year-old joined Algerian side from Cape Town City FC in July 2024. He made 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals and contributing one assist.
After the former TS Galaxy tactician, Ramovic, left Mayo out of his plans for the new season, Chiefs pounced on the former Richards Bay FC star.
Mayo is the 11th signing for Chiefs in the current transfer window after bringing in new faces such as Lebohang Maboe, Etiosa Ighodaro, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Nkanyiso Shinga, Thabiso Monyane, Flavio Silva, Ethan Chislett, Paseka Mako, Luke Baartman, and Asanele Velebayi.
MOTAUNG JR SAYS CHIEFS ALWAYS WANTED TO BRING MAYO TO NATURENA

The left-footed joins Amakhosi with a proven track record of banging in goals after winning the 2022/23 Golden Boot with 12 goals. Mayo shared the award with Mamelodi Sundowns talisman Peter Shalulile, who had scored the same number of goals that season.
Motaung Jr has reacted to the arrival of Mayo, stating that the goal poacher will add value in the striking department, particularly in the CAF Confederation Cup.
“It’s no secret that we wanted to bring Khanyisa to Naturena before his move to Algeria,” said Kaizer Motaung Jr after the Soweto giants welcomed the striker on Friday.
“He has a proven track record in the league, and we believe he will add significant value to the squad this season when we play in the league, as well as on the continent. He joins a select group of athletes who’ve made their families proud by following in their footsteps. We are truly happy to have him here and wish him all the best.”
Khanyisa is the son of Chiefs legend Patrick Mayo.
