Chelle reveals what will satisfy Nigeria against Bafana

While acknowledging that the Super Eagles of Nigeria have struggled to score goals in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers campaign, head coach Eric Chelle has revealed what will satisfy them against Bafana Bafana on Tuesday.

Nigeria have scored just eight goals in their seven Group C matches so far in the World Cup qualifiers. They have only managed to score two goals during the 2-0 win away to Rwanda in March this year.

The Super Eagles, fresh off an unconvincing 1-0 win against Rwanda on Saturday, will take on Group C leaders Bafana Bafana at Toyota Stadium.

A win for the West African nation could open the race for the fight for a spot at next year’s tournament. On the other hand, a victory for Bafana could also edge them closer to qualification for the global tournament to take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

“For me, the goal was winning this game [against Rwanda] and after that we will have one or two training sessions before we go to South Africa,” Chelle told journalists.

“If we win 1-0 in South Africa, we will be happy. So this is normal, but like you said, we will try to be more clinical,” added.

The Super Eagles will also be relying on Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali to stop the high-flying Bafana Bafana attackers, who have so far scored 13 goals in the World Cup qualifying campaign.

“We are happy that we won 1-0 against Rwanda, and we can go to South Africa with lots of ambitions. I am happy, and we are happy that we have the second game in two days,” added the Nigeria coach.

“Like I said before. If you win, some of you are not happy with the way that we play. But the reality is that we have had a lot of chances to score goals. I feel and I think we need to have a bit of confidence.
