Experienced midfielder Deolin Mekoa has opened up about his stay at the Betway Premiership side Magesi FC, following his move to the Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Venda FC.

The 32-year-old had joined Dikwena Tsa Meetse during the 2023/24 season when the team was still competing in the SA second-tier from the SAFA KZN ABC Motsepe League club Summerfield Dynamos.

Mekoa went on to win the Motsepe Foundation Championship title with the Limpopo side and gained automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership.

But he parted ways with Magesi when his contract came to an end in the last term, where he participated in 22 games across all competitions.

His departure from Magesi saw him reuniting with his former mentor, Clinton Larsen, at Venda FC. Larsen, who won the Carling Knockout Cup with Magesi, resigned live on television in December last year as the club’s head coach.

Mekoa highlighted two standout memories from his time at Magesi that will remain with him eternally: the automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership and the Carling Knockout Cup triumph, both of which he will always treasure

“To be honest, it was a good stay at Magesi. I joined them when they were still in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. When I joined the team, I clicked very well with the rest of the squad, you know,” Mekoa told FARPost.

“So, we went on to win the Motsepe Foundation Championship, and we got promoted to the Betway Premiership. We achieved something great. In our first season in the top-flight, we won the Carling Black Label Knockout Cup.

“You know, that was something great. Those are some of the memories that will stick with me forever.”
