Cape Town City FC midfielder Luphumlo ‘Kaka’ Sifumba, who recently returned from Europe, is close to securing a deal with a new club.
Sifumba spent part of last season on loan at Portuguese club FC Vizela, where he impressed despite registration issues. The loan was a result of limited playing time at CT City.
The 20-year-old, who burst onto the football scene with his impressive performances in the Engen Knockout Challenge and the DStv Diski Challenge, remains of interest to Vizela.
He has also attracted attention from Olimpija Ljubljana, the three-time Slovenian PrvaLiga champions. In fact, last season, a social media post featuring a picture of Kaka in Olimpija training gear confirmed their interest, but they were unable to meet CT City’s valuation.
After his loan ended, he returned to CT City but has yet to settle, missing the first two Motsepe Foundation Championships. Currently, the two European teams are reportedly monitoring his situation, with valuation disagreements hampering negotiations.
WHICH CLUB IS KAKA SIFUMBA ALMOST JOINING?
According to a Durban City FC source, Sifumba had his first training session on Tuesday, following his arrival from Cape Town on Sunday. Durban City are under the tutelage of veteran coach Gavin Hunt, who is reportedly keen to have the player in his squad.
Indications are that the two clubs are discussing a loan deal that would keep him at the club until the end of the season.
His contract with CT City comes to an end in June 2026, and he would be free to join any club of his choice.
However, Olimpija are said to be still keen on the youngster and could return in January. Sifumba will be hoping the move materialises so he can return to football.
The talented attacker, nicknamed ‘Kaka’ after the retired Brazilian star, burst onto the scene during the 2022/23 season. That season, he clinched the prestigious DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season accolade.
The technically gifted Sifumba is known for his exceptional passing, assists, and ability to create space for teammates.
