Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane has drawn from his own experiences at the club to offer some valuable insights to newly signed Amakhosi striker Khanyisa Mayo.
Mayo recently joined Chiefs on loan after he was not registered with his parent club, CR Belouizdad, for the new 2025/26 season. The decision came after coach Sead Ramoviฤ informed him he was no longer part of the team’s plans.
Interestingly, Chiefs, the club his father, Patrick Mayo, played for, missed out on his signature last season, and he eventually joined the Algerian giants.
His move comes just months after Mdantsaneโs departure from Chiefs. The two played together for three seasons at the now-relegated Cape Town City FC. Mdantsane spent two seasons at Naturena before being released in June.
As Mayo embarks on his journey with the club, Mdantsane has shared some valuable advice that he expects will help Mayo succeed at the Soweto giants.
WHAT ADVICE HAS MDANTSANE GIVEN TO MAYO?

โMayo is an outstanding player. He’s very good, and he’s that one guy who always wants to win. And with each opportunity he gets, he wants to win,โ Mdantsane told FARPost. โHis personality is also enhanced by his football IQ. Heโs a very competitive guy.โ
The attacking midfielder also recalled the time when the 27-year-old forward was chasing his goalscoring record at CT City.
โThere was a time when I was the clubโs leading top scorer at Cape Town City, and he’d been telling me every day at training that he was going to break the record. And that pushed him to fight even more every game like this. He likes to compete. And it’s good for him because he improves each time. He eventually broke my record,โ explained Mdantsane.
He believes his versatility will be a major advantage for the technical team at Amakhosi. Interestingly, Mdantsane feels he excels on the wing because โhe has the ability to deliver the ball, and his technique is outstandingโ.
โHe always has that hunger to be in the box and score. So, with me, I would prefer him on the right wing because he likes to cut inside and just shoot. And he has that technique to do that,โ added Mdantsane.
His advice to him as he joins the Soweto giants is โto remain humble and professional in every gameโ.
โIn every training session, he must always fight. It will never be easy. You’re not only getting pressure from the team, but also pressure from outside. But the most important thing is that you must never focus much on what people are saying on the outside. The most important thing is that the coach is allowing you to play. Just do your best. Every game is a cup final at Chiefs.โ
