Mamelodi Sundowns and Durban City FC have agreed on the loan transfer of Terrence Mashego. The Mamelodi-born full-back recently played for Bafana Bafana at the CHAN tournament.
Mashego has been seeking a transfer from Sundowns to secure more playing time. Last season, he made 13 appearances out of a possible 53 for the Brazilians. There is a growing sense that he may not receive the amount of game time he desires.
Sundownsโ signing of Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC has increased competition for the left-back position. Already ahead of him in the pecking order were Divine Lunga and Aubrey Modiba. They also have national Under 20 captain Asekho Tiwani in that position.
Since the start of the transfer window, Sundowns have been trying to find a club for him where he can play his football this season. This comes after the Brazilians exercised their option, which keeps him at the club for another year.

He will be hoping to gain more game time under Gavin Hunt at City. Mashego was initially linked with a move to Siwelele, but the transfer did not materialise because they clearly indicated their intention to retain Neo Rapoo and Aphiwe Baliti. Both left-backs had been linked with potential moves away from the newly acquired Betway Premiership side.
MASHEGO EAGER TO REGAIN HIS FORM
With a move to Durban agreed between the two clubs, the player is expected to sign a contract this week. According to City sources, the talented fullback trained with the team on Wednesday morning. Formerly with Cape Town City and TS Galaxy, the 29-year-old was a key member of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broosโs squad in the past.
Mashego was part of the Bafana squad that went to AFCON 2023 in the Ivory Coast. The lack of game time has seen him lose his national team place. The move to KZN is expected to revive his career with the AFCON coming up in December.
