TS Galaxy rising star Seluleko Mahlambi has expressed his burning desire to build a successful career and avoid the mistakes made by his brother Phakamani Mahlambi.

The former Bafana Bafana international, Phakamani Mahlambi, disappeared from the scene in the PSL after his well-documented off-the-pitch challenges in the past few years. He broke into the SA top-flight with Bidvest Wits in the 2014/15 season as one of the most talented youngsters at that time.

Mahlambi went to play for big clubs such as Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns. The 28-year-old also had stints with Chippa United and AmaZulu FC before his career was marred by disciplinary issues.

Recently, Mahlambi was trying his luck at Durban City FC; however, the club decided against signing him. After he struggled to find a club, his younger brother, Seluleko Mahlambi, has revealed that he’s using Phakamani’s mistakes to build a career.

The 21-year-old has had a promising start to life in the Betway Premiership after coming through the TS Galaxy’s DStv Diski Challenge side. Mahlambi has scored three goals and provided two assists in five league matches. His impressive form propelled the Rockets to three successive wins in the Premiership before the FIFA international break.

“Phakamani Mahlambi is my older brother, and I can say that he’s helping me a lot, especially with the mistakes he has made,” Seluleko Mahlambi told FARPost.

“So I can say that what I’m learning from him is the mistakes that he has made, even the coaches here in the team, they always tell me that I have the example in front of me, I shouldn’t do the same, which can affect my career.”

The talented winger has further shed light on the measures Galaxy have been taking in training to maintain their winning form when they return to league action on Wednesday, 17 September, against Richards Bay FC.

“Everything has been going well at training, since it was FIFA break. We’ve been pushing to make sure that when the league returns, we continue winning. We just need to continue where we left off, and I think what we have been working on is finishing so that we can score more goals.”
