Casric upset CT City, Kruger United defeat Lerumo Lions

Cape Town City against Casric Stars

Casric Stars pulled off an upset at Athlone Stadium on Saturday, defeating Cape Town City FC 1-0 in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, while Kruger United also secured a victory, beating Lerumo Lions 2-1.

The Citizens are winless in their opening three matches in the Championship after being relegated from the Betway Premiership at the end of last season. CT City played two draws against Venda FC and Hungry Lions FC before suffering their first loss against the Mpumalanga-based side.

After failing to collect maximum points in the opening three matches in NFD, CT City are occupying 15th place on the league table with only two points. In the three games, the John Comitis-owned club has scored only one goal, raising a significant concern in the attacking positions.

On the other hand, Casric Stars have won all three matches played in the second-tier league so far, and they are sitting at the summit of the log standings with nine points. Stars claimed wins against Black Leopards and Milford FC before beating Cape Town City this past weekend, maintaining their 100% record in the 2025/26 season.

KRUGER UNITED BEAT LERUMO LIONS

Elsewhere, Kruger United imposed themselves and walked away as victors with a 2-1 win over new NFD side Lerumo Lions at NWU Mafikeng Stadium. The North West-based outfit is new in the Motsepe Foundation after purchasing the status of Pretoria Callies ahead of the new season.

Meanwhile, Milford FC collected three points with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Venda FC at Umhlathuze Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.

In another match scheduled for Saturday, Black Leopards had their match against Upington City FC postponed as they don’t have sufficient players due to a FIFA transfer ban.
