Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari has credited Rwanda National Team coach Adel Amrouche for his continued faith in him despite challenges at his club.

Since Amrouche, an Algerian national, took over as Rwanda coach, Ntwari has yet to feature in a competitive match for his club.

The Amavubi goalkeeper joined Amakhosi last season and started the first seven games. Since then, he has not appeared in any matches for the club. Nevertheless, Amrouche has maintained that the former TS Galaxy shot-stopper remains his first-choice goalkeeper.

In the just-ended September FIFA break, Ntwari was in goals against Nigeria and Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“I think the coach has been helping me a lot because since he came, I have never played for my club,” Ntwari told FARPost. “And it’s not easy for any coach to say the goalkeeper is not playing for one month or four months. It’s a problem. But I appreciate the trust he has in me.”

The goalie added: “He continues to motivate me and give me the confidence to say, even if you are not playing in your club, but in the national team, you are my number one.”

Ntwari made several good saves in the 1-0 defeat to the Super Eagles and helped Rwanda beat Zimbabwe in Johannesburg. He said he owes it to the coach to demonstrate through his performances that he was the right choice as the number one goalkeeper for the national team.

Meanwhile, the former AS Kigali goalkeeper said the current World Cup qualifying campaign was encouraging for the team. Rwanda are currently fourth in the six-team Group C, with two games to go before concluding the campaign. They play Benin [at home] and South Africa [away] next month.

“I think the future is bright for the national team of Rwanda, with coach Adel. The main target is the AFCON 2027. These World Cup qualifiers are helping us shape the team into how the coach wants us to play, so that we can be ready. We haven’t qualified for AFCON for quite a while. And I think with him, in 2027, people will see Rwanda at the AFCON.”
