Kaizer Chiefs suffer major blow as Thabiso Monyane ruled out

Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a significant blow with the news that right-back Thabiso Monyane has been sidelined with an injury.

The new signing from Orlando Pirates, who has been an instrumental part of Amakhosi’s strong start to the season, was not named in the squad for Tuesday’s Betway Premiership clash against Sekhukhune United.

Monyane has been a revelation since his move from rivals Pirates. The right-back has started all five of Chiefs’ games this season, quickly establishing himself as one of the standout players so far. With Monyane at the back, Amakhosi are yet to concede a goal.

His absence will be felt by coach Nasreddine Nabi and his technical team, who have relied on his consistent presence on the right flank.

The injury comes at a particularly unfortunate time for the player, who recently earned a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Monyane made a notable impact, coming on as a second-half substitute in the crucial 1-1 draw against Nigeria.

While the club has yet to release an official statement regarding the nature or severity of Monyane’s injury, his exclusion from the matchday squad against Sekhukhune United suggests it is serious enough to keep him out of action. The Amakhosi faithful will be anxiously awaiting an update on their key player, hoping for a swift return to the pitch.

But in his absence, Nabi has turned to Reeve Frosler, whose only appearance was in the Polokwane City FC encounter. He came on as a substitute and provided the assist that led to the only goal, which secured maximum points for Amakhosi. Siphesihle Ndlovu scored that goal from Froslerโ€™s assist.

Nonetheless, Chiefs will be hoping to maintain their solid defensive record. With their CAF Confederation Cup campaign kicking off on Saturday against Angolaโ€™s Kabuscorp, the Soweto giants will have to navigate a demanding schedule.
