Latest update on Rivaldo Coetzee’s Sekhukhune United assessment

Rivaldo Coetzee in action with Mamelodi Sundowns

Mike Makaab, the CEO of Prosport International, has shared the latest developments regarding former Mamelodi Sundowns star Rivaldo Coetzee, who is being assessed by Sekhukhune United.

The talented defender-cum-midfielder has been a free agent since his departure from Sundowns at the end of last season, and is now training with Sekhukhune with the hope of earning a contract under coach Eric Tinkler.

Coetzee was part of the long list that exited the door at Masandawana, as head coach Miguel Cardoso expressed his desire to work with a small squad. The midfielder left Sundowns alongside Lebohang Maboe, Sipho Mbule, Sifiso Ngobeni, Thabang Sibanyoni, Sanele Tshabalala, Lucas Suarez, Neo Maema, Thembinkosi Lorch, and Rushine De Reuck.

After completing his injury rehab, Coetzee resurfaced at Babina Noko, who are keen to strengthen their defence to challenge for major trophies in the 2025/26 PSL season.

Coetzee’s agent, Makaab, has revealed that they made a request to Sekhukhune for the player to return to the gym and focus on improving his strength and conditioning.

The former Orlando Pirates coach added that Sekhukhune gave them the blessings to have the player working in the gym before making a decision on his future.

“Look, we have to take a very cautious approach when it comes to Rivaldo Coetzee. We want to make sure that when he returns to the pitch, he returns to perform at an optimum level,” Makaab told FARPost.

“We made a request to have Rivaldo work more in the gym, and Sekhukhune allowed us to do that, then the decision can be made afterwards. I can tell you that he has been working very hard, and we all know what Rivaldo is capable of doing. Everything just has to be done in the right way so that we can bring him to his best again.”

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune have already made big signings in the off-season, and Coetzee could become a major coup as he can play in defence and midfield.

Sekhukhune welcomed Bradley Grobler, Toaster Nsabata, Manuel Sapunga, Tsepo Matsimbi, Olerato Mandi, Sphiwe Mahlangu, Ronaldo Maarman, Miguel Timm, Medupi Thokolo, Sydney Malivha, Banele Gama, and Malekgene Mampuru for the current campagn.
