Sekhukhune United claimed a 3-1 victory against Kaizer Chiefs in the Betway Premiership at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night to hand Amakhosi their first defeat of the 2025/26 season.

Eric Tinklerโ€™s troops found the back of the net courtesy of Thabang Monare and a brace from Bradley Grobler, while Flavio Silva pulled one back for Chiefs.

Chiefs returned from the FIFA international break to host Sekhukhune at home, aiming to maintain their unbeaten run in the new season. Amakhosi had a promising start to the season after claiming four wins and one draw in the first five matches.

Chiefs secured wins against Stellenbosch FC, Richards Bay FC, Polokwane City FC, Golden Arrows, and shared the spoils with defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys also came into the clash against Sekhukhune as the only side thatโ€™s yet to concede after keeping five clean sheets. On the other hand, Babina Noko are also unbeaten after collecting maximum points on four occasions and played one draw before facing Chiefs.

In an exciting clash between Chiefs and Sekhukhune, the match kicked off on a high tempo with both teams showing clear intentions of scoring an early goal. The Limpopo-based side drew first blood after finding the back of the net in the 5th minute through veteran striker Bradley Grobler, who scored his third goal in the league since joining the club in the off-season from SuperSport United.

A few minutes later, the Soweto giants levelled matters in the 13th minute through Flavio Silva. The 29-year-old capitalised on the defensive error from Sekhukhune to score for the second match in a row after scoring against Arrows before the FIFA break.

The match went into the half-time break at a 1-1 score line. In the second stanza, Sekhukhune reclaimed their lead in the 50th minute as Grobler completed his brace.

Sekhukhune opened the floodgates in the 56th minute after Thabang Monare made a solo run from the midfield to score a beautiful goal that gave his side a 3-1 lead and increased their chances of collecting three points.

The Simon Malatji-owned team held on to its healthy lead and beat the Naturena-based side in front of their home fans. As a result of the win, Sekhukhune moved to the summit of the league table with 16 points in six matches, while Amakhosi remain in third place with 13 points.
