Durban City FC chairman Farook Kadodia has explained why the club opted to rope in highly-rated defender Terrence Mashego and experienced striker Letsie Koapeng for the 2025/26 PSL campaign.
The KwaZulu-Natal side officially unveiled the signings of Mashego and Koapeng on Tuesday, 16 September, just a few hours ahead of their Betway Premiership clash with Siwelele FC at Chatsworth Stadium.
Mashego joins the Gavin Hunt-coached club on a season-long loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, while Koapeng penned a two-year permanent deal after cutting ties with Orbit College FC five days ago.
The duo made their debuts for Durban City as they started in the club’s league tie against Siwelele FC on Wednesday. To top it off, Koapeng was on the scoresheet as they secured a 2-0 win over the Bloemfontein side. Mashego played the entire 90 minutes, whereas Koapeng lasted for 68 minutes.

FAROOK KADODIA’S REASONING BEHIND THE CLUBโS DECISION TO SIGN MASHEGO AND KOAPENG
The club’s boss, Kadodia, expressed his excitement in acquiring the services of the two players, citing their “experience and quality” as the reasons behind the signings.
โThe signing of Terrence Mashego provides us with immediate, proven quality and vital experience for our defence. He is a winner who knows what it takes to compete at the very highest level,” said Kadodia.
โLetsie Koapeng adds to our attacking options upfront. We understand the demands of top-flight football and know that we will need dynamic individuals through the season.
โThese two signings are a clear statement of our intent to compete now while also building a solid foundation for sustained success. They add crucial depth and different dimensions to our team, making us stronger across the park.โ
As things stand, Durban City are placed fourth on the Betway Premiership log standings with 11 points after six matches.
