Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns have a strong presence in the Amajita squad for the upcoming FIFA Under-20 World Cup, with a significant number of players from both clubs making the final cut.
Coach Raymond Mdaka announced his final squad to represent South Africa at this prestigious tournament on Thursday, 18 September 2025.
The reigning African champions, the SA U-20 national team, will feature a strong contingent from the top two clubs in the country. Sundowns lead the way with five players in the squad, while Chiefs are not far behind with four.
The tournament, which will be the 24th edition, is scheduled to take place in Chile from September 27 to October 19, 2025.
Amajita qualified for the World Cup after reaching the semi-finals of the 2025 CAF U-20 AFCON tournament held in Egypt. Mdaka’s troops went on to win the tournament for the first time, beating Morocco in the final
South Africa are in Group E alongside the USA, New Caledonia, and France. Amajita’s first match will be against France on Monday, 29 September 2025.
Mdaka’s charges will then face New Caledonia on 3 October and end their group stage campaign with a clash against the USA on 5 October 2025.
This tournament will have 24 participating nations who will be gunning for the title honours.

NOTABLE OMISSION FROM AMAJITA FINAL SQUAD
However, there is a notable omission from the Amajita final squad. Shandre Campbell, who was part of the team’s preparations for the World Cup in Pretoria during the just-ended FIFA international break has not been selected.
FARPost has gathered that Club Brugge refused to release the youngster because the World Cup will be playing outside of the FIFA calendar.
Campbell was only able to join the Amajita camp after his Belgian club, Club Brugge, was forced to release him for the duration of the FIFA international break, as mandated by official regulations.
Meanwhile, Mdaka’s final squad includes rising stars such as Tylon Smith of Queens Park Rangers in England, the Chiefs duo of Mfundo Vilakazi and Luke Baartman. The list also comprises of Kutlwano Lethlaku, Siyabonga Mabena, and Asekho Tiwani from Mamelodi Sundowns,
