Head coach at Polokwane City, Phuti Mohafe, has revealed that he has gone back to the classroom to further his coaching qualifications.

Mohafe has been the permanent head coach at Rise and Shine since Lehlohonolo Seema’s departure. Seema, who left for Sekhukhune United in 2024, later moved to Siwelele FC.

The PLK City coach, Mohafe, went on to guide the club to a top-eight finish at the end of the 2023/24 season. He also guided the Limpopo club to a seventh-place finish last season.

However, the club was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2025 MTN8 by Orlando Pirates. For the longest time, Mohafe had the CAF B Coaching Licence.

The 51-year-old has since revealed that he has embarked on an eight-month CAF A Licence course, which he will complete in March 2025.

“I was away on my coaching badges, and I came back yesterday [Tuesday],โ€ he told journalists.

“I am studying for my CAF A License now, and I hope that with the knowledge that we will get there, it will help Polokwane City, together with the management.”

Meanwhile, Polokwane City recently welcomed back some of their players from long layoffs due to injuries. This includes Bafana Bafana defender Thabang Matuludi.

“We missed them a lot, and itโ€™s been almost a year since they have not kicked a ball,โ€ added Mohafe.

โ€œThank god they are back. I hope that the team will be a full squad with no injuries. So the headache is on us. You can see even with how we finished the match [against Golden Arrows in midweek]. It was so explosive.

โ€œSo we missed the boys, they are back, and we are happy that they are back, and we wish we could continue with the same temperament that we showed today [Wednesday].โ€
