Veteran football administrator Stan Matthews is facing an uncertain future with Siwelele FC and may be on the verge of being axed from his role.
FARPost has established that the club is mulling over dismissing him, and exit talks are ongoing. The developments come just months after Matthews was brought on board as part of a project to re-establish a formidable footballing presence in the Free State.
Initiated by chairman Calvin Lee John following the purchase of SuperSport Unitedโs status, it was initially hailed as a masterstroke. Matthewsโs extensive experience and deep knowledge of the PSL were seen as crucial assets for ensuring a seamless transition and building a competitive squad.
However, it appears the partnership may have hit a significant stumbling block. A player told FARPost that Matthews expressed strong negative feelings toward the head coach, Lehlohonolo Seema, during a recent interaction with the squad, which reportedly caused concern for the clubโs owners.
Attempts to obtain comments from Matthews and Lee John were unsuccessful, as both their phones went unanswered.
SIWELELE FCโS DIFFICULT START TO THE SEASON
Siwelele have faced a challenging start to the season. After seven matches, they have suffered five losses. Saturdayโs 2-0 defeat to Magesi FC left them with just four points from a possible 21.
Seema took over just two weeks before the start of the season, leaving little time for a proper pre-season with the squad. The club has the next 24 hours to strengthen the team before the transfer window closes on Monday, 22 September 2025.
Going into the season, the club signed Buhle Mkhwanazi, Relebogile Mokhuoane, Thabo Makhele and Wayde Lekay. They retained several players who were with SuperSport last season. Matsatsantsa narrowly avoided relegation after a series of poor results that led to coach Gavin Hunt being sacked.
