Sundowns, Siwelele FC finalising Kegan Johannes’ loan

Mamelodi Sundowns and Siwelele FC are finalising the loan transfer of versatile defender Kegan Johannes. Siwelele chairman Calvin Lee John, who announced the departure of CEO Stan Matthews, also confirmed they plan to sign five players before the transfer window closes on Monday, 22 September 2025.

FARPost has established that Johannes is one of the targets, with a Sundowns source confirming the club had sanctioned the move. The two clubs, according to the source, have agreed on the terms of the loan agreement. All things being equal, he is expected to complete his transfer on Monday with a medical.

“We are also going to terminate various contracts of players who have not shown the heart and willingness to fight for this team,” Lee John told the club’s media. “We will be signing new players in the coming two days, five to six players to strengthen this team because we’ve noticed that it needs strengthening.”

Johannes’ move to Siwelele, who recently acquired the status of his former club SuperSport United, had stalled earlier in the transfer window. He was expected to move to the club alongside Terrence Mashego and Neo Maema, who have both left Sundowns for Durban City and Simba SC, respectively.

Meanwhile, the two clubs recently revived discussions over the 24-year-old, who is eager to transfer and gain regular playing time elsewhere. Johannes, who participated in the recent CHAN tournament, has struggled to establish himself at Chloorkop since moving from SuperSport at the start of last season.
His exclusion from the squad that competed in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup further cast doubt on his future with the Brazilians.

Earlier this season, in Khuliso Mudau’s absence, Johannes was also overlooked. Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso instead relied on Zuko Mdunyelwa and the versatile Thapelo Morena to fill the right-back position.

With a move looking imminent, Johannes, whose progress at Sundowns was disrupted by recurring niggling injuries, will be hoping for regular playing time.

Siwelele have had a difficult start to the season. After seven matches, they have lost five times. Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Magesi FC left them with just four points from a possible 21.
