Another dry weekend for SA stars abroad, as Lorch gets it right

It was yet another low-key weekend for the majority of Mzansi’s stars abroad, as forward Thembonkosi Lorch emerged as the only goalscorer.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward, Lorch, scored his first goal of the season for Wydad AC in the league. Lorch scored the equaliser in their 1-1 draw with US Yacoub El Mansour at the Olympic Stadium on Friday night.

In the Austrian Bundesliga, Yusuf Maart played the whole match as SV Ried lost 3-2 to Austria Wien on Saturday in a league tie. His counterpart, Antonio van Wyk, was withdrawn after 56 minutes. The match was played at the Generali Arena.

Bafana star Luke le Roux came on at half-time for Portsmouth FC in their English Championship loss to Sheffield Wednesday at Fratton Park on Saturday. They lost 2-0.

In the English Premier League, Lyle Foster played 85 minutes as Burnley FC drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon at Turf Moor. He produced the assist for Burnley’s goal.

In Portugal, Bafana Bafana star Sphephelo Sithole played 19 minutes for CD Tondela as they drew 0-0 against Estrela Amadora. This was a Liga Portugal match played at the Estรกdio Joรฃo Cardoso on Sunday.

Additionally, Shandre Campbell provided an assist for Club NXT as they drew 1-1 with KV Kortrijk on Sunday. This Belgian First Division B match was played at Guldensporen Stadion.

BRADLEY CARNELL AND HIS PHILADELPHIA MARCH ON

In the USA, Bongokuhle Hlongwane was introduced in the second half and played 34 minutes as Minnesota United lost 3-0. This was against Chicago FC at the Allianz Field on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, Bradley Carnell’s Philadelphia Union edged New England Revolution 1-0 at Subaru Park on Saturday.

In this one, SA defender Olwethu Makhanya was not in the team. Philadelphia Union remains on top of the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference with 60 points from 31 matches. FC Cincinnati are in second position with 58 points.

In the USL Championship, former Sekhukhune United midfielder Jamie Webber played 81 minutes as his FC Tulsa drew 1-1 with Oakland Roots SC. The match was played at the Oakland Coliseum on Sunday.

Former Cape Town City FC forward Fagrie Lakay played 90 minutes as his Ceramica Cleopatra FC lost 1-0 to Al Ahly. The match was played at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday evening.

In Saudi Arabia, Bafana Bafana forward Elias Mokwana played 90 minutes in Al-Hazem FC’s 0-0 draw with Al Fateh SC at Al Hazm Club Stadium on Saturday.

Additionally, the exciting Mohau Nkota played 58 minutes as Al-Ettifaq lost 4-2 on penalties to Al Batin FC in a King’s Cup round of 32 tie. That was after a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time at the Al-Batin FC Stadium on Sunday.

Bafana Bafana defender Samukelo Kabini played 64 minutes as Molde FK lost 1-0 to Viking at the Viking Stadium on Sunday evening. He received a yellow card during the match.

FADLU DAVIDS SET TO LEAVE SIMBA SC AFTER BEATING GABORONE UNITED

In the CAF Champions League, Fadlu Davids led Simba SC to a 1-0 win over Gaborone United in a match played at the Francistown Stadium.

This was a first preliminary round leg one clash. Rushine De Reuck played the whole match as they snatched the away win.

In another CAF Champions League match, Rulani Mokwena and his MC Alger team played out to a 0-0 draw with the Liberian side, FC Fassell. The match was played at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on Saturday.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana was not in action this weekend. His FCSB face Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday, 25 September at the De Adelaarshorst.

Percy Tau and Njabulo Blom were not in action this weekend for Nam ฤแป‹nh FC. Nam ฤแป‹nh were in action on Wednesday when they beat Ratchaburi FC 3-1. The team will be in action on Monday when they face Ninh Binh at the Ninh Binh Stadium.
