Former Orlando Pirates defender Edward ‘Magents’ Motale is refusing to read much into problems haunting Kaizer Chiefs, saying they should not be ruled out this season.
Amakhosi are in the process of finalising coach Nasreddine Nabi’s exit, leaving Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze in charge of the first team on interim basis. They could be forced to look elsewhere for Nabi’s replacement if they opt against having the two assistants continue with the team.
Having lost their last two games, Chiefs find themselves in a bad patch they are keen to recover from after a bright start to the season. A five-match unbeaten run in the Betway Premiership without conceding goals was crushed by a 3-1 defeat by Sekhukhune United and last Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Kabuscrop in the CAF Confederation Cup.
But Motale says it is just a phase the Soweto giants can get out of if they immediately find Nabi’s replacement. The 1995 CAF Champions League-winning captain has also sent a warning to Chiefs’ rivals not to dismiss Amakhosi.

MAGENTS WARNS PIRATES & DOWNS, GIVES CHIEFS SOME ADVICE
“I think it’s too early to rule them out. We can’t write off Kaizer Chiefs now,” Motale told FARPost.
“They should just get a new coach and the sooner the better. That way they will quickly recover. The only thing that can disturb them is delaying getting a new coach.
“As for Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, they just have to focus on their own trip and must not worry about other people’s journey because they are not driving in the same car. They must just focus on their games as they come.”
Chiefs will be hoping the losses to Sekhukhune and Kabuscorp will not be morale-sapping. They are now out to pick themselves up from the two defeats when they host Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership at FNB Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday with kickoff set for 17:30.
