Mamelodi Sundowns’ latest signing, Nuno Santos, has opened up on his first official match for the Tshwane giants at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi against Golden Arrows.
The 26-year-old, who was signed during the transfer window deadline day on Monday from Liga Portugal side Vitória de Guimarães, came in as a second-half substitute against Golden Arrows in a Betway Premiership encounter on Wednesday.
Sundowns suffered a 1-0 loss, a first of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season. The former Portuguese youth international has since shared his experience of playing his first-ever match on South African soil.
“[I had] mixed feelings because I wanted to start with a win; unfortunately, we couldn’t do it,” Santos told the Sundowns media team. “But at the same time, I am happy with my debut here at Sundowns. I am very proud of the team. We tried to get the three points during the 90 minutes, sadly, we couldn’t do it, but we will go again next game.
“It was a very physical game and an emotional game, quality as well. There were moments as well that the team played well, and yeah, I am very happy.”
SUNDOWNS’ NEW SIGNING SANTOS ALREADY FEELING AT HOME

Meanwhile, Santos has also shown appreciation to the club supporters for their support on his first day.
“I am really happy to be here, I felt a huge support from the fans. Obviously, it’s very different from Portugal, but it is very good at the same time,” he added.
“Everybody made it easier, not only them [fans] but the rest of the team as well. I want to thank them for the way they welcomed me. I feel good here, and I hope to give joy to the team and to the fans.”
Sundowns will now put the loss against Arrows behind them as they prepare to face Richards Bay FC in their next Betway Premiership match on Saturday, 27 September.
