AmaZulu star shares Arthur Zwane’s confidence-building message

AmaZulu FC coach Arthur Zwane

A rising AmaZulu FC star has opened up on the inspirational first conversation he had with head coach Arthur Zwane, revealing the words that immediately ignited his confidence upon arrival at the KZN side.

Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya joined AmaZulu FC from FC Platinum of Zimbabwe prior to the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

The 22-year-old is slowly establishing himself as a mainstay in Zwane’s strike force at Usuthu. He has been so reliable and forceful that Zwane has thrown him into the fray in all the seven league matches played so far.

Ngwenya has repaid the faith bestowed on him by scoring three. He scored in their consecutive draws against Sekhukhune United , Magesi FC and TS Galaxy.

A workaholic by nature, Ngwenya thrives on high energy and a strong physique to pressure defenders, disrupting their build-up play.

In an interview with FARPost, the Zimbabwean international said Zwane’s sentiments in their first conversation back in July increased his confidence.

‘YOU CAN BE THE BEST STRIKER IN THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP’: COACH ARTHUR ZWANE TOLD NGWENYA

Ngwenya expressed trust in his coach’s ability to help him reach greater heights in the Betway Premiership.

“It has been a very fruitful stay so far, and I honestly appreciate coach [Arthur Zwane] because the first conversation we had when I came here has helped me see the bright light ahead,” Ngwenya told FARPost.

“He told me that I have the traits of a complete striker and even predicted that I can rise to be one of the best strikers in the league. Those words increased my confidence as I still work towards fully adjusting to the speedy kind of play in the league [PSL].

“He conveyed a calm and clear message that has been ringing in my head. It’s always awe-inspiring to know that your leader believes in you even after the little time spent together.”

Almost three months after leaving FC Platinum, midway through the 2025 Zimbabwe PSL season, Ngwenya remains the team’s top scorer. By the time he left, he had nine goals under his belt, and none of his former teammates have managed to beat his feat.
