Polokwane City vs Sekhukhune United in the Limpopo Derby

Polokwane City FC ended Sekhukhune United’s unbeaten run in the Betway Premiership as Golden Arrows and Durban City FC recorded crucial wins on Saturday.

In a lively Limpopo Derby, Rise and Shine halted Sekhukhune’s smooth run after edging them 1-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Prior to this clash, the Eric Tinkler-coached side was the only team with a flawless record in the league. However, they were humbled by the stubborn and resolute Polokwane City FC.

Mokibelo Ramabu’s 32nd-minute goal was enough to earn Polokwane City a win. The Phuti Mohafe-led side is now fourth on the Betway Premiership table with 15 points from nine matches.

In addition, Sekhukhune surrendered the Betway Premiership top spot to Mamelodi Sundowns, who beat Richards Bay FC on Saturday night. Sundowns now sit on 21 points after beating Richards Bay 4-1, while Babina Noko are second, with 20 points. But Sundowns have played a game more than Sekhukhune.

DURBAN CITY FC JUMP TO THIRD POSITION ON THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP LOG STANDINGS

At the Chartsworth Stadium, Samkelo Maseko, Saziso Magawana and Letsie Koapeng were on target as Durban City FC came back from behind to beat Magesi FC 3-1 on Saturday night.

Wonderboy Makhubu opened the scoring for Magesi FC in the 29th minute. They led at half-time, but Durban City FC came with more sting in the second half. They equalised via Maseko in the 50th minute and Magawana thrust them into the lead in the 77th  minute.

Koapeng made it three in the 88th minute to seal the win. As a result, Durban City rose to third place on the log table after collecting 15 points, but are tied on the same number of points with fourth-placed, Polokwane City who have an inferior goal difference.

GOLDEN ARROWS THUMP ORBIT COLLEGE FC TO MAINTAIN WINNING FORMULA

At the King Zwelithini Stadium, Golden Arrows kept their winning formula after outsmarting Orbit College FC 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. On Wednesday, the Manqoba Mngqithi coached-side stunned Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0. Junior Dion was the hero of the day after scoring the solitary goal of the match.

The Ivorian striker was again on the score-sheet as they thumped Orbit College FC. He scored the first goal of the game after four minutes of play.  Siyanda Ndlovu doubled their score in the 23 minute mark before Jerome Karlese sealed the convincing win, with their third goal in the 72 minute mark.

Golden Arrows now sit in seventh position, with 10 points while Orbit College are 12th on the log table. They have seven points in nine matches.
