Kaizer Chiefs’ new signing Khanyisa Mayo has shared his thoughts on making an immediate impact at the club after scoring on debut against Marumo Gallants.
The talented attacker opened his scoring account for the season after netting a goal in a 1-1 draw against Gallants in the Betway Premiership at FNB Stadium on Heritage Day.
Amakhosi found the back of the net in the latter stages of the first-half before Gallants equalised through a stunning shot from Jaisen Clifford in the second-half.
In a fierce battle with Bahlabane Ba Ntwa, Mayo was a constant threat to the opponents with his creative spark in the final third. The Bafana Bafana international joined Chiefs in the recently closed transfer window on a season-long loan from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad. His loan deal has an option for Amakhosi to buy.
WHAT MAYO SAID ABOUT HIS IMPACT AT CHIEFS
Mayo is expected to play a big role at Chiefs after following in the footsteps of his father, Patrick Mayo, who is one of the respected legends of the Glamour Boys. The 27-year-old has opened up on his quick impact in Chiefs colours, stating that he wants to live up to the legacy left by his father in the early 2000s at the Soweto giants.

โI felt good going into the game [against Gallants]. I have been training hard to get into the match-day squad. Everyone at the club has been very supportive of me since I joined, which I am grateful for,โ said Mayo.
โWalking onto the pitch was a moment I could celebrate personally, but I was aware that there was a job to be done, and I was determined to make the most of finally becoming a Glamour Boy. It was very emotional. I canโt really describe the elation I felt inside. It was such a great feeling. It motivates me to want to do it more, especially to help the team achieve its targets.โ
MAYO SPEAKS ON FOLLOWING HIS FATHER’S FOOTSTEPS
โLiving up to my fatherโs legacy, filling his shoes, was very special. Itโs not easy growing up under the pressure [of having a famous footballing father], but I take it as it comes. We are all people in our own right, and we all have to work hard to be successful.”
