CT City’s NFD nightmare continues, Casric maintain top spot

Cape Town City in Motsepe Foundation Championship

Cape Town City FC’s nightmare start to the 2025/26 Motsepe Foundation Championship season continues after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Milford FC at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay on Saturday.

The Citizens have found life difficult in the NFD after being relegated from the Betway Premiership in the previous campaign. CT City fell short in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs to lose their status in the SA top-flight. The Cape Town-based side were relegated after struggling for a consistent winning form in the Premiership.

In the second division, CT City have had a dismal run, which saw them failing to claim a victory in the opening five matches of the season. Cape Town City have played three draws and suffered defeats on two occasions. They drew against Venda FC, Hungry Lions FC, Kruger United, and lost against Casric Stars and Milford FC.

After collecting only three points in five games, CT City are currently positioned in the bottom half of the table, and they will be looking to climb up the table to fight for promotion.

Elsewhere, Casric Stars maintained their position at the summit of the league table after beating Lerumo Lions 2-1 at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Friday.

The Mpumalanga-based outfit tightened its grip in the top spot after collecting 13 points in five games played so far. They are one point behind the second-placed team, Milford FC, who have 12 points.

Since the start of the new campaign, the University of Pretoria has played five successive draws under the guidance of the new coach, Kwanele Kopo.
