Kaizer Chiefs second assistant coach Cedric Kaze has addressed the club’s goal-scoring issues after advancing to the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Chiefs defeated Angolan side Kabuscorp SCP 5-4 on penalties after playing to a 1-1 draw on aggregate over two legs. The Glamour Boys lost the away tie 1-0 before securing a win in the second leg with the same scoreline at FNB Stadium in Soweto on Saturday, with a goal from Glody Lilepo.

Since the start of the new season, Amakhosi have been struggling to score more than one goal in their last seven matches across all competitions. They last scored two goals in the opening match of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season when they defeated Stellenbosch FC 2-0 at Athlone Stadium.

In recent matches, Chiefs have consistently created goal-scoring opportunities, but they are failing to be lethal and convert their chances. This inability to finish is a lingering issue that also plagued them last season, when the club finished ninth in the league despite managing to end their decade-long trophy drought under Nasreddine Nabi.

WHAT KAZE SAID ABOUT CHIEFS MISFIRING ATTACK

Opening up on Chiefs’ goal-scoring woes, Kaze asserted that the team’s attack is failing due to poor execution, specifying that both the final pass and the finish lack the necessary quality to consistently convert chances.

“I would say that situations are different; the last pass and the last movement in attack have not been good,” Kaze told the media at FNB Stadium.

“I have to say that today [Saturday], the chances were there and the last passes were there, but the only thing that we do is to keep working. The good thing is that going into the next game, we will have more options and more players that are going to be available, and we hope that is going to help.”

The Naturena-based side will be aiming to sharpen their skills in the final third when they face AmaZulu FC in their next league match at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Chiefs are winless in their last two league matches after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Sekhukhune United before playing to a 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants a few days ago.
