Pirates trial over: Nwoburuoke lands deal with Durban City

Football agent Mike Makaab has confirmed that Collins Nwoburuoke has completed a move to Durban City FC after having trials at Orlando Pirates.

The Nigerian footballer spent the past few weeks training with Pirates, looking to impress head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and his technical team.

Nwoburuoke arrived in South Africa in the off-season to complete a move to the KZN-based side ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign.

However, his move to Durban City stalled, resulting in the decision to try his luck with the Buccaneers. With Pirates seemingly having enough options at centre-back position, the deal could not materialise.

The Soweto giants currently have Nkosinathi Sibisi, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Lebone Seema, Tapelo Xoki, Olisa Ndah, and Thabiso Sesane fighting for the position at the heart of the defense.

After ending his assessment at Pirates, Nwoburuoke resurfaced at Durban City to sign a contract and work under Gavin Hunt.

WHAT MIKE MAKAAB SAID ABOUT COLLINS NWOBURUOKE

In an interview with FARPost, Makaab has revealed that the young defender has penned a deal with Durban City. The former Pirates coach also disclosed that paperwork is the only reason why the registration of Nwoburuoke is not complete yet.

“Collins Nwoburuoke has completed a move to Durban City. He is a player who has a lot of potential, and he will definitely play a role in the PSL,” Makaab told this publication.

“He signed with Durban City just before the closure of the transfer window, and he’s just waiting for his papers for everything to be complete.”

Meanwhile, the Farook Kadodia-owned team has a decent start to the new Betway Premiership season after gaining promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season.

Durban City are sitting third on the log standings after collecting 15 points in the league in nine matches. They registered four wins, three draws, and two defeats.
