Dutch coach Andries Ulderink is poised for a sensational return to Cape Town City FC as they seek to turn their season around in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The club has struggled in its early stages under his compatriot, Jan Vreman, who took over the reins after Ulderinkโs departure. CT City, who were demoted to the second-tier last season after failing to win the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs, have only collected three points out of a possible 18.
They are yet to get a tatse of victory in their first six games. They lost three and drew three times, which leaves them in the bottom half of the table. On Wednesday, they were beaten 1-0 by nine-man newly promoted Lecesterford City FC at the Athlone Stadium.
Vreman, who arrived shortly after Ulderink left the club in June, is struggling to find his footing in the local game. Ulderink was initially appointed as the head coach at City at the beginning of this season. However, he left the club to serve as an assistant manager under Erik ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen.

Ten Hag, the former manager ofย Manchester United, had succeeded Xabi Alonso at the German club. Unfortunately, Bayer Leverkusen parted ways with Ten Hag after a poor start to the Bundesliga season. As a result, Ulderink, who had spent two weeks preparing the Citizens for the season, is now available to take up a new role.
WHAT ULDERINKโS PROPOSED ROLE IS AT CAPE TOWN CITY FC
CT Cityโs management and the 56-year-old Ulderink are in advanced talks to have the former Ajax Cape Town mentor return to the club. His role, according to a source close to the Dutchman, would be technical director. He was spotted at the Leicesterford game in the VIP stands.
โAs technical director, he would still work closely with Vreman, but also oversee the entire football structure at the club,โ the source told FARPost.
The Zwolle-born brings vast experience from his roles at clubs such as Scottish giants Rangers, Twente FC of the Netherlands, Belgiumโs Royal Antwerp, and Reading in England.
