Baloyi demands urgent decision on Chiefs’ coaching situation

Khalil Ben Youssef & Cedric Kaze, Kaizer Chiefs

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brian Baloyi has challenged the Soweto giants to be decisive in resolving their technical team issues.

Amakhosi are currently under the guidance of first assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef and second assistant coach Cedric Kaze, who are leading the team following the Soweto giants’ recent fallout with head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

A wave of uncertainty currently engulfs Chiefs as there is no certainty over whether Kaze and Ben Youssef will be entrusted to lead the club permanently or if they will eventually be shown the exit door.

The initial standoff—reportedly relating to the coach’s qualifications—between Nabi and the club is yet to be resolved, and the relationship between both parties is widely believed to be broken beyond repair.

That coincides with Chiefs failing to collect maximum points in their last three Betway Premiership matches and had to scramble into the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round.

Baloyi feels the Soweto giants are not doing themselves as favours by continuing without a substantive technical team.

TECHNICAL TEAM UNCERTAINTY AFFECTING CHIEFS

“I think the biggest problem at the moment is Chiefs not the playing staff, but the coaching side. There is a lot of uncertainty on the coaching side. The sooner the club resolves it, the better,” Baloyi told FARPost.

“Whether continuing with the interim or bringing in a new coach, it has to be resolved after what happened with Nabi. There has to be a decision to be made there. Coaches’ personalities are different and one week players are trained by this coach and then the next by another coach.

“You are responding differently to different personalities. So, the sooner they resolve this, the better for the club because there is a lot of uncertainty. Right now, the Achilles Heel at Chiefs is resolving their coaching situation.”

Chiefs are in a season they are bidding to win the Betway Premiership title for the first time since the 2014/15 season but the current technical team situation threatens to shatter their ambitions. They are currently fifth on the log standings but are now focusing on Sunday’s Carling Knockout Cup trip to Stellenbosch FC.
