Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has shared his thoughts on the in-form winger Tshepang Moremi receiving a Bafana Bafana call-up for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The speedy Pirates winger has been included in the 23-man Bafana squad that will play two crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda.

Broos’ troops will first take on Zimbabwe on Friday, October 10, 2025, in Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. They will then host Rwanda for the final qualifier on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga. Both fixtures are evening kick-offs at 18:00.

Bafana Bafana will be desperate to claim six points from these two matches to secure their spot in the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

This need for points is particularly urgent as the team recently had three points deducted by FIFA after fielding Teboho Mokoena, who was later deemed ineligible due to accumulating two yellow cards. With the stakes high, coach Broos has assembled a formidable squad for the qualifiers, with Moremi included.

The 25-year-old has scored five goals in 12 appearances across all competitions and notably netted a brace in the final that saw Pirates clinch their fourth successive MTN8 trophy against Stellenbosch FC at Mbombela Stadium last month.

Moremi joined the Sea Robbers in the off-season from AmaZulu FC; however, in his early days at the club, he endured challenges with fans booing him.

WHAT OUADDOU SAID ABOUT MOREMI’S INCLUSION IN THE BAFANA SQUAD

Ouaddou has expressed his happiness for Moremi’s call-up, stating that he’s not surprised as the attacker has been working hard.

“I’m not surprised [about Moremi’s selection in the Bafana set-up], I always say that people who believe in working hard will have the rewards,” the former Marumo Gallants coach said.

“So you have to always work hard, believe in your qualities, and be very professional in how you manage your life. I always tell my players they are professionals and they have to make sacrifices.

“We cannot live like average people; we are playing after every three days, so we have to work hard and be careful about our lifestyle. So I’m not surprised, I’m happy for him and all my players who have been called up to the national team.”
