Richards Bay FC and defending champions Magesi FC comfortably secured their spots in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals on Sunday, dispatching Chippa United and AmaZulu FC, respectively.
The game between Richards Bay and Chippa took place at uMhlathuze Sports Complex, whereas the Magesi and AmaZulu showdown was held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The Natal Rich Boyz secured a 4-1 victory against the Chilli Boys this afternoon, while Dikwena Tsa Meetse beat Usuthu 3-2 this evening to keep their dream of defending their title alive.
Goals from Ntlonelo Bomelo, Lundi Mahala, and a brace from experienced frontman Knox Mutizwa were enough to earn Richards Bay a spot in the tournament’s quarter-finals.
Azola Tshobeni scored the consolation goal for the Gqeberha-based outfit, as they bowed out of the competition in the first round.

Meanwhile, first-half goals from Kgomotso Mosadi and Junior Seseane gave the Limpopo club an upper hand against the KwaZulu-Natal side in the first half.
Athini Maqokola pulled one back for the hosts in the second stanza. And as the second half progressed, it looked like the home side would never come back and find an equaliser. However, it was a different story when Mlondi Mbanjwa levelled matters 19 minutes before the final whistle.
In the stoppage time of the game, Bafana Bafana international, Thabiso Kutumela, scored an own goal to help Magesi to secure a 3-2 win in this encounter.
This victory saw Magesi become the last team to qualify for the last eight of this year’s edition of the Carling Knockout Cup.
The other six teams that have progressed to the quarter-finals are Durban City FC, Orlando Pirates, Marumo Gallants, Golden Arrows, TS Galaxy, and Stellenbosch FC.
All the teams that have advanced to the quarter-finals will have to wait to find out who they will meet next.
