The audacious ambition fuelling Ngwenya’s success at AmaZulu FC

AmaZulu FC striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya is riding the crest of a wave, and there’s one team he has always wanted to play for in the Betway Premiership.

Ngwenya is in scintillating form and is Usuthu’s leading scorer after managing four goals in eight games in the 2025/26 season. The Zimbabwean international joined the Arthur Zwane-coached side in July from FC Platinum of Zimbabwe.

He left FC Platinum after managing nine goals in 17 matches in the ongoing Zimbabwe PSL season. And it appears, he has managed to keep the rich vein of form and explode as Usuthu’s marksman.

Simply put, he is slowly establishing himself as AmaZulu FC’s reliable goal-getter, as he leads their goal charts.

On Wednesday against Kaizer Chiefs, Ngwenya notched a beautiful goal from close range, a perfectly timed header that eluded goalkeeper Brandon Peterson.

Mduduzi Shabalala scored Amakhosi’s equaliser. Both goals were scored in the first half of the match played at FNB Stadium.

WHAT STRIKER THANDOLWENKOSI NGWENYA SAID

Interestingly, Ngwenya scored against a team he has always wanted to play for. Prior to the match, the 22-year-old had an interview with FARPost, where he revealed his childhood dream of playing for The Glamour Boys.

Nevertheless, Ngwenya is primarily focused on ensuring he leaves an indelible mark at Usuthu in his maiden season.

“I’m focused on playing for AmaZulu FC, but to be honest, playing for Kaizer Chiefs is a dream I had as a child. It’s a team that I admired while growing up, and it would be a dream come true if one day, I get a chance to play for them.

“I take every opportunity seriously, that is why I am making sure my presence is felt at AmaZulu FC. This is a team that accepted me quickly.

“Coach Zwane has been very supportive and I have also learnt a lot from senior players like Bongani Zungu. Every day is another chance to learn and grow. We all want to play for big teams in every league,” Ngwenya told FARPost.

So far, Ngwenya’s goals have come against Sekhukhune United, Magesi FC, TS Galaxy FC and Kaizer Chiefs.
